about

Following on from our handful of gigs in 2016, and after a few months where Drew, Neil, Lindsay and had I talked about ways we could somehow make another Mac-Talla Nan Creag record (after enjoying making this one so much - firecrackerrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/firec015-mac-talla-nan-creag) we recorded these pieces in April 2017 during rehearsals in my home studio space.

We arranged to do an instore performance at Edinburgh's Underground Solu'shn for Record Store Day that year. Due to time commitments Neil couldn't make it so once more Drew and I started work on stripped down live versions of pieces from that first record, while kicking around ideas for the next one - which would eventually become Sorrow Of Derdriu (firecrackerrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/firec027lp-the-sorrow-of-derdriu)

5 Sisters and Corries (sadly cut short here due to a hard drive failure, though it is still a good 14 minutes long so fair enough eh) were favourites from that first album.

The piece Recesses is kind of an earlier incarnation of Mulad, from that second album; Here Tak Mine was a one off which was never to be repeated; and Early Flight later became Flight (with added magic from McDonald, Lord Of The Isles and John Kenny, Master Of The Carnyx).

To reiterate: I unearthed the recordings recently and felt it was time they were aired & shared with the wider world. These should sound pretty much how they did when we played them - all live, no overdubs. The only post production I've really done here is a little EQing, level adjustment, and some light chopping of beginnings and endings. Due to the semi improvised approach there are of course wee imperfections here and there - no mistakes though, only happy accidents.

I hold a great fondness for this music and I hope you all can get something from it too.

about

Other Lands Edinburgh, UK

Other Lands has always made music and always will. Not concerned too much with genre, more mood & going beyond the self. Trying to make it universal, as much for those who came before as for those yet to appear.
Hope that helps.
