This music emerged over a two and a bit year period & is connected by the common approach of just switching on the gear, switching off the mind & then hitting record.

I had treated most if not all of these pieces as sketches, or meditations, often recorded when trying out a new pedal or signal path, perhaps. Yet the more I went back and listened to them over time I grew to appreciate their individual charms. Then, when starting to place them together in a sequence, they made even more sense sitting next to each other.

Many of these tracks are one take wonders with few if any overdubs or after effects, with precious little editing either. In some ways I feel it’s a natural successor to my Rehearse In Reverse album from a few years ago, in terms of overall mood. However, while I recorded that in one session and even played it out live in public a few times, Ruminant Fire was not made in, nor will it likely ever be performed in the same way.

Please don’t be alarmed by some of the flaws inherent in these types of recordings. There may be some distortion here and there, or errant volume levels in places, but overall there is something in them all worth hearing, I feel. I sincerely hope you can enjoy listening to these with some ease.
